HEC Montréal is preparing to clear the runway for the launch of a new specialized MBA program for the aerospace industry.

Aerospace industry lift-off charted by HEC Montréal

The full-time one-year course, named the AeroWorld MBA, is to be aimed at providing those working within the aerospace industry with the specific skillset needed to advance in their careers. HEC Montréal is looking for candidates with at least three years of work experience:

“These managers often start with scientific and technical backgrounds before moving into team or project management positions. An MBA will give them the skills they need to be more comfortable in these roles and speed them along their career paths,” Jacques Roy, a professor in HEC Montréal’s operations management and logistics department, said in a press release.

The program’s structure has been drawn up in collaboration with EBC AeroWorld Institute, housed within HEC Montréal, and seeks to combine business essentials with aerospace industry insights in areas such as space program management, aircraft financing and safety management in aviation.

Assuming the AeroWorld MBA receives approval from the Government of Quebec and the Université de Montréal, the first program will commence in September 2015, and comes with a price tag of CA$45,000 (just under US$40k).

Oxford 1+1 MBA program scholars at Saїd Business School

Saїd Business School announced the recipients of a new scholarship for its Oxford 1+1 MBA program this week.

The Oxford 1+1 MBA program combines an MBA with a selection of master’s programs from the University of Oxford. The scholarships (known as Oxford Pershing Square Graduate Scholarships), meanwhile, are awarded to those looking to tackle social challenges.

The first five winners have now begun their master’s studies in fields ranging from child development and education to African studies and, once completed, they will move on to the Saїd Business School’s MBA program next fall.

“My aim is to harness the welfare component of the MSc in Comparative Social Policy program and the social entrepreneurship element of the MBA at Saïd Business School in order to design a sustainable solution for sanitation in India,” said one the scholarship recipients, Gayathri Balan of Pune, India in a press release.

Plans for US$60M building at the Haas School

At the Haas School, Berkeley, the construction of a new US$60 million six-story building was announced yesterday, December 4.

The structure, to be known as the North Academic Building, is centered on the student experience of those attending the Haas School. There are no administrative offices in plans featuring classrooms, group study rooms, a café and event space that will all be kitted out with technology aimed at keeping the Haas School up to date with changes to the way in which management education is, and can be, delivered:

“The goal of the new facility is to create the best, most up to date learning experience for our students. It’s all about them,” said Rich Lyons, dean of the Haas School, in a press release. The building is expected to be completed in time for the fall of 2016.

Transformative campus design for Copenhagen Business School

On the other side of the Atlantic, the winners of a project-design competition to build a new campus extension for Copenhagen Business School has been chosen with the lofty aim of producing the “world’s best city-integrated campus.”

The plans for Copenhagen Business School, from C.F. Møller + TRANSFORM, center around four new public parks and are intended to transform an area around a nexus of old and new metro lines in Copenhagen’s Frederiksberg district.

“One of the strategies in the master plan is that the new buildings will cover a relatively small land area to allow as much space as possible for urban spaces and urban life,” said Julian Weyer, C.F. Møller partner.
